Nick Cooper

 


Nick Cooper is the cellist with Trans4mation quartet who work with John Surman and have recorded two albums for ECM - ?Corruscating? and ?Spaces In Between?. Nick is also cellist of Gavin Bryars Ensemble, and with Solid Strings who record for the Village Life label, performing with such artists as guitarist Jim Hall, Kurt Elling, Stan Sulzmann, Guy Barker, Paloma Faith, and with Madeline Peyroux in a residency at Ronnie Scott?s Jazz Club in Soho, London.

Nick has performed concerto's and solo recitals at London's South Bank and Wigmore Hall, also in the USA, Greece, and the former Soviet Union where he appeared with the Leningrad State Chamber Orchestra and their principal conductor Ravil Martinov.

He has credits as solo 'cellist on many film scores, recording in London on Academy award winner Jan Kaczmarek score for ?Anna Karenina?, also in London, France, Spain and Belgium for Academy award winner Stephen Warbeck. For Emmy award winner Paul Englishby; on Gary Yershon's score for 'Another Year', David Ferguson's music for 'Dark Adapted Eye' and for Emmy award winner Adrian Johnston.

He is the cellist in the Stephen Warbeck Ensemble. They performed at the Tenerife film festival in 2012. Nick was also the solo cellist in a concert with the Tenerife Festival Orchestra.

He toured for the UK Contemporary Music Network with New York jazz trio 'Equal Interest', and with saxophonist Michael Brecker. He has also recorded and toured with the Michael Nyman Band, and with German jazz clarinetist Michael Reissler.

Nick is a former member of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Balanescu String Quartet, with whom he recorded for the Decca and Mute record labels. He has performed as a guest cellist with the Lyric, Medici and Brindisi string quartets.
